Trump Extends Ceasefire With Iran as U.S. Awaits Proposal
President Donald Trump said Tuesday that the United States will extend its current ceasefire with Iran while waiting for a unified proposal from Tehran.
Trump said the decision came at the request of Pakistan, as efforts continue to reach a broader agreement. At the same time, U.S. forces are maintaining a blockade of Iranian ports, signaling that military pressure remains in place.
The development comes as the White House has postponed a planned trip by Vice President JD Vance to Pakistan for another round of talks. Iranian officials have reportedly been hesitant to continue negotiations.
In a social media post, Trump said the extension is necessary because he believes Iran’s leadership is “seriously fractured,” though the country’s government remains intact. Ongoing negotiations are expected to test Iran’s ability to reach a unified position.
Meanwhile, tensions remain high across the region. A senior Iranian military official warned neighboring Arab nations that allowing the U.S. to launch attacks from their territory could put Middle East oil production at risk.
Tennessee Guardsmen Provide Life-Saving Aid in Memphis Shootings
Members of the Tennessee National Guard assisted local authorities during two separate shootings recently in Memphis, providing critical medical care to multiple victims.
Guardsmen with the 278th Cavalry Regiment responded alongside the Memphis Police Department to a shooting at a shopping center on Knight Arnold Road, where they treated three victims with gunshot wounds. Crews worked quickly to stop bleeding and stabilize the individuals until emergency responders arrived.
Shortly after, Guardsmen were called to a second shooting at an East Memphis apartment complex, where they provided aid to a critically injured victim with multiple gunshot wounds, helping stabilize the individual before transport to a hospital.
Additional personnel remained on scene after both incidents to assist law enforcement with securing the area and supporting the investigation.
Officials say the Guard continues to work alongside local agencies as part of the Memphis Safe Task Force, providing support when needed.
Cumberland County to Leave BOE Seat Vacant Until August Election
The Cumberland County Commission has voted to leave the Fourth District Board of Education seat vacant until the August election following the resignation—and recent passing—of longtime member Anita Hale.
Hale had previously announced her resignation, set to take effect May 1, 2026. However, county officials were informed Monday that she had passed away.
According to Allen Foster, the seat will remain unfilled for now due to the unique circumstances surrounding the vacancy. Because no election had originally been scheduled for the position and no candidates were on the ballot, state law allows for an alternative process to fill the seat.
The Cumberland County Election Commission is expected to begin issuing independent petitions for the position starting April 21. Both Republican and Democratic parties will also have the option to hold caucuses if they choose.
Officials say the decision ensures the process remains in line with state guidelines while giving voters an opportunity to weigh in during the upcoming election.
